What does Flingk do?

Flingk takes a long URL and makes it into a short URL that you can use instead.

For example, long URLs like http://maps.yahoo.com/maps_result?addr=1600+pennsylvania +avenue&csz=washington+dc&country=us&new=1&name=&qty= will be converted into a shorter link that looks like this: http://flingk.com/lnkle9a.

You can then use the short link to visit the long one.

Why would I want to do that?

Long links sometimes get broken up when you send them in emails or post them on the web. When this happens, people have to copy and paste the pieces of the URL into their browser before they can follow the link. Flingk URLs are only 25 characters long, and do not get broken up. Using Flingk, when users click on the shorter link, they automatically get taken directly to the longer URL.

What does "Flingk" mean, anyway?

It's a combination of "fling" and "link". It also means some very nice things in various European languages.

How long do Flingk's short links last?

For as long as Flingk.com is up and running. Unless we identify them as SPAM links, in which case they get deleted immediately.

Will my Flingk URLs ever be reused? Will you delete my short URL and let somebody else use it?

No. The short URLs are all unique. Even if they get deleted, they will not be reused.

Can I spam using Flingk?

No! We have safeguards in place to delete spam URLs when they get entered, and when somebody tries to use them.

Do I have to pay for the service?

No. Flingk.com is absolutely free to use.

Are there any pop-up ads when people click on the short links?

No.
